ARTIST STATEMENT

I tell lighthearted and whimsical stories that have characters that are fun, full of charm, and a little bit mischievous. When I was younger, I always loved drawing but never liked reading, as the absence of visuals could not keep my attention. Through storytelling in a picture book, my stories can connect my imagination to theirs in a visually engaging way.

"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. " - Greek Proverb

My ultimate objective is to help create a happy and warm memory for a child and their parents. Though every word and illustration may not be remembered, the memory of those small moments shared between a parent and child will. Perhaps when the child grows into an adult, they'll never forget snuggling under the blanket with mom and dad right before bedtime or on a rainy day when it was too cold to play outside. It could be a memory the parent will always cherish of their little one giggling, pointing to things on the page, and asking one thousand questions, so they may never have to go to sleep.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

As a child, John knew that he wanted to to be an artist, but that kind of work was unheard of in a family that was dominated by health care professionals.

After working as a nurse for nearly a decade, John decided to pursue his dream of telling stories and drawing pictures.  He went back to school and attended College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
